are overweight, especially if you have a large tummy
have ever had high blood pressure, heart attack or a stroke
are over 40 (or over 25 if you are South Asian)
have a diagnosed mental illness that you take medication for
are South Asian, Black African or Carribean
a woman who has had polycystic ovaries, gestational diabetes or a baby weighing over 10 pounds.
have a parent, brother or sister with diabetes

you may have diabetes if you...

need to pass urine more than usual, especially at night
have blurred eyesight
often feel thirsty
often feel itchy around your genitals or get regular infections like thrush
think you have lost weight without trying to
cuts take a long time to heal
often feel tired
 

If you do have any of these signs, contact your GP practice to arrange a diabetes test. It is important not to ignore the signs – the earlier you take action, the sooner you can get the right care to reduce your risk of serious ill health.
